Description

"Demons Out"
February third is "Setsubun" in Japan, the day that marks the beginning of spring at the start of a new year. Front doors are decorated with holly and the skewerd head of sardines to drive out demons. On this day beans are thrown out the front door as residents yell "demons out" and luck is welcomed with a toss of beans into the house calling "fortune in."
This watercolor design, complete with the kanji characters for "Oni wa Soto" meaning "Demons Out," shows the oni demons they are not welcome here with a formidable personification of Fortune with beans at the ready.

"Demons Out" color design 4.25"x5.6" postcard.

Reverse side in Japanese vertical orientation.
