About "nekomachi":
It is easy to take for granted the everyday street scenes around us. Yet there are also times when I am overwhelmed with melancholy thinking about how the aging buildings are growing increasingly rare as time continues to reshape our urban environment. In these moments, a sighting of a shop cat in a window or a neighborhood stray lounging in the sun on a shop doorstep can brings me back to the present. Without yearning for the past nor worrying about the future, cats live in the here and now and simply absorb the moment in which they are living. This series invites us to take that cats’mindset, and I hope these illustrations of cats watching over the shops of our city streets can remind us to stop and appreciate the city in its present moment.
